About Mrs. Patterson

I am Cathy Patterson and I am the Librarian at the Academy at Nola Dunn. I am an avid reader, technology geek, and learner. My husband and three children are the center of my universe, and my friends and students are a close second.
As a Native Texan, I spent most of my younger days in Richardson, Texas. I have lived in Dallas, Plano, West Palm Beach, FL, Corpus Christi, and Burleson. Burleson has been my home for nearly eight years!

I attended Texas State University (also known as Southwest Texas State University) for my Bachelor’s degree. I graduated with my Library and Information Science Master’s degree from Texas Woman's University in December of 2009. It was a hard two years, but getting this degree and working in a library were goals of mine!
My husband Steve and I have three children: Mason, born on June 28, 1994, Carson, born on October 12, 1995 and Olivia, born on March 15, 1997. After becoming a parent, I realized that I had a new connection with parents and a real understanding of how to work with children differently. As a parent, it is only natural that I might look at my students as I look at my own children!

I love to read, learn new technology, and help others! I spend a lot of my free time pursuing those interests. I love to boat on the lake and relax on the beach in Seagrove, FL all while spending quality time with my family. I find joy in a lot of the little moments now. Summer is my favorite time of year because I love to garden, go walking/jogging (I call it wogging), and just being outside!


Interesting Things About Mrs. Patterson



• My oldest graduated in 2013. I will also have a graduate in 2014 and 2015!!
• I have never liked snakes, alligators, or coffee
• I took piano for 9 years as a child but I don't play much anymore
• I can touch my tongue to my nose
• I am always writing lists and enjoy keeping my life organized
• I sometimes give myself permission to stop reading a book if I really don't like it (it's really OK to do that)
• I love to listen to music when I drive/work/clean
• I hate cleaning my house
• I have a Little Free Library, that my Dad built for me, on the corner of my front yard! (Look me up on littlefreelibrary.org and come and visit)
• I have a dune buggy that my brother fixed up for me

Mrs. Patterson’s Favorite Things

• I love drinking water with lemon...Sonic knows JUST how to make it :)
• I love to wander around Pier One…such a great store
• I have a slight problem in that I love to read books! My Kindle Fire is fun to read on but I prefer B O O K S that I can hold!
• Being outside
• the Lake, the beach, and just being in the sun
• quiet time on the patio
• spending time with my kids at home
• gardenias
• Laughter!
• learning new things
